The highlight of our visit to Sapporo was an overnight stay with the Yasuyo "Yass" Shiiya and his wife Yoshiko. It was a perfect stay, from the dinner fresh from Yoshiko's garden to an expert guided tour of Sapporo, featuring stops at the Hokkaido Shrine, a tea ceremony, kendo lessons, and the ski jump from the 1972 Olympics. Our final night was a dinner at an Izakaya, a sort of Japanese pub with Yass, Yoshiko, and their nephew Nobuki Kudo and his wife Ikuko. A great experience- I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so!
