Everyone who's been to Berlin knows ampelman, the little guy on the street corner signs who tells you to go or to stop. Sapporo has a similar sign- though I don't know his name. In the park you can sit in the biergarten and have a doner. And I think I just saw Frau Alexander! Is this Japan or Germany?
Speaking of not knowing names, on my first day in town I introduced myself in Japanese to our guide Nakagaki-san. Unfortunately, what I said was wakarimasen John, which roughly means "I don't understand John". For once I spoke the truth!
